Show #202: Martha Norbeck

By Lynnae Marty Hentzen

This week’s guest is Martha Norbeck, founder of C-Wise Design and Consulting out of Iowa City and the chair of the USGBC Iowa Chapter.

Raised in an environmentally-aware household and educated in various settings around the world, Martha was an early adopter of the essential need to incorporate environmental aspects in designing and building structures and communities. She discovered that it was these designers who were making a real difference in communities. After working with various architecture firms for a few years, she started her own company to specialize in green building consulting with an emphasis on LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Certification.

The United States Green Building Council (USGBC) and its LEED rating system is just as relevant today as it was during its inception in 1993. With the mission to promote sustainability-focused practices in the building industry by transforming how buildings and communities are designed, built, and operated, the founders of USGBC set out to provide a network of connecting and educating professionals in all sectors. Their goal was to enable an environmentally and socially responsible, healthy, and prosperous environment that improves the quality of life. (USGBC.org)

Something To Think About:

As Rick Redrizzi once said . . .

“Green buildings are a hallmark of economically sound business decisions, thoughtful environmental decisions, and smart human impact decisions.”

And as Buckminster Fuller has said . . .

“The best way to predict the future is to design it.”

Thank you Martha, for all that you are doing to promote green building and to guide all of us on the urgent need to handle carbon with care.

We are truly grateful.
